A huge iceberg calves that holds a megalodon (mega shark) and a giant octopus frozen inside it. Deployment of a LFAS (low frequency automatic sonar) unit causes it to shatter. The two behemoths thaw and return to life. The shark terrorizes the California coast while the octopus creates havoc things near Japan. A group of three oceanographers put together a plan to draw the beasts into a trap with pheromones. The California coast is terrorized by two enormous prehistoric sea creatures as they battle each other for supremacy of the sea. Those fine folks at Asylum strike (out) again with yet another choice chunk of pure cheesy low-budget cinematic gold, this time relating the enjoyably absurd story of two enormous prehistoric creatures who get unfrozen from a huge iceberg in the Artic and proceed to terrorize the human race as they rampage throughout the sea. Can mankind figure out a way of stopping these destructive and dangerous behemoths before it's too late? Boy, does writer/director Jake Perez totally fumble the ball with entertainingly inane results: Perez treats the gloriously ludicrous premise with jaw-dropping (and gut-busting) misguided seriousness, lets the meandering narrative unfold at an uneven stop'n'go pace, makes clumsy occasional use of a nausea-inducing shaky cam, fails to generate any real tension or momentum, and tosses in a sappy romance between two scientists for extra sentimental measure. Moreover, the acting by the cast is a decidedly mixed bag: Adorable 80's teen pop sensation Deborah Gibson provides plenty of spunky charm as perky oceanographer Emma, Vic Chao contributes a likable turn as Emma's Japanese colleague and love interest Seiji Shimada, Sean Lawlor overdoes his Irish brogue, but still manages to be quite engaging as hale'n'hearty professor Lamar, and the ever-wooden Lorenzo Lamas pours on the obnoxious smarm something unbearable as ramrod military macho man Allan. Unintentionally hilarious moments abound: The mega shark snatches a 747 airline in mid-flight (!) and destroys the Golden Gate Bridge, the giant octopus trashes an oil rig, and, best of all, when conventional weapons prove to be useless our protagonists come up with the brilliant idea of having the beasts kill each other in a major physical confrontation. The lousy CGI effects further add to this clunker's considerable kitschy appeal. An absolute tacky riot. This movie has to be the most embarrassing movie that the Syfy Channel has ever done. This is another movie with very thin plot lines, dry dialogue, and horrible acting. The movie starts off quite slow and tasteless, scientists discovering two prehistoric sea creatures frozen in ice deep down under the sea. What breaks the ice is a huge whale collapses onto it, unleashing the huge monsters. The thing about these monsters is that they are supposedly smarter than any humans. After they are unleashed, havoc spreads around the world, including an oil rig being exploded by the octopus, and then a super jet destroyed by the shark. What's incredibly wrong with this movie is the special effects. They were lousy and not very advanced. Not recommended.
